Carpet & Rug Cleaning Care:
Woollen Carpets
To ensure the maximum life out of your carpet, the key things to remember are regular vacuuming (preferably with an upright vacuum) and never rub, brush or massage the carpet pile when it is wet. The simple steps for maintenance are:
1. Vacuum regularly - at least once a week and more often in heavy traffic areas - this will remove free soil particles and surface litter, and prevent soil from becoming embedded in the pile, which causes accelerated wear by grinding at the base of the tufts.
2. Promptly attend to spills and stains. Most oily or greasy stains can be removed even after a considerable period of time, however certain stains may have a chemical reaction with the fibre - actually dyeing the carpet - and such stains are irreversible. For unusual stains and spills we recommend contacting a professional carpet cleaner.
3. Periodic wet cleaning by a reputable operator will remove entrapped soil particles and revive the appearance of your carpet (but this does not negate the need for regular vacuuming).
Alternative natural fibres (sisal, coir, seagrass, jute, hemp)
You can help protect your flooring with an environmentally friendly stain protection solution (Intec). When ordering your flooring or rug, ask us to have it protected with Intec. Kits are available for purchase to use for spots and spills - blot then clean following instructions provided.
Use entry doormats to control the amount of dirt tracked in and vacuum regularly using suction only. Avoid applying liquids such as water or carpet cleaner.
The added protection of a castor chair mat is suggested if using chairs fitted with castors. Frequent movement of castors can damage the fibres of the flooring.
Rugs
The following is a guide to ensure you retain the beauty of your rug. All woollen rugs shed and have a “settling down” period which will be hastened by regular vacuuming
Vacuuming regularly and thoroughly with a good quality vacuum cleaner will go a long way to retaining the appearance of your rug. Vacuum at least once a week to remove soil and dirt before it becomes embedded in the base of the carpet.
Stains are best prevented by acting quickly when spills occur. Blot liquids with paper towel or absorbent cloth. For water-based stains that require more than diluting the spill with minimal water and blotting, use a weak solution of mild detergent (eg wool-care) or carpet shampoo. Be sure to “rinse” out the detergent with water – blotting up all excess liquid once stain has been removed. Do not rub or saturate the rug.
For oily or greasy stains use a dry-cleaning solvent, methylated spirits, or and aerosol carpet stain remover for greasy stains.
For unusual stains and spills we recommend contacting a professional carpet cleaner.
